And the cutting of Vollskogen proceeds. In all of this chaos it seems too good to be true that Opsahl Bolig reached out to us yesterday with a pleasantly surprising message: They wish to correct some of the statements they most recently made in Ås Avis concerning the development of Ås Hageby. Opsahl stressed, that “transparency and honesty are a cornerstone of their business model”, and asked us to publish their corrected statements on our website. They also sent us some nice pictures they asked us to share 🙂

So, here you go, folkens. Below, you’ll find Opsahl’s original statements as published in Ås Avis followed by their most recent corrections. We selvfølgelig also provide the English translations to both.

According to Opsahl,

“…det er mest gunstig å gjør hogsten på vinteren når det er frost i bakken, og at det vil gi den mest skånsom gjennomføringen av hogsten.” (Ås Avis, 19.12.24)

[“…it is most beneficial to carry out the felling in the winter when there is frost in the ground, and that it will provide the most gentle implementation of the felling.”]

Korreksjon: “Vi bryr oss egentlig ikke om skogens jord og rotsystem. For å holde tritt med våre tids- og økonomiplaner kuttet vi Vollskogen selv om temperaturen har vært nær 0°C de siste dagene. Skogbunnen er for tiden veldig våt og myk. Men å (nesten) hogge en hel skog er selvfølgelig aldri skånsom uansett. Når man ser på det fra det perspektivet, spiller det noen rolle?”

[Correction: “We actually don’t care about the forest’s soil and root system. To keep up with our time and finance schedules, we cut Vollskogen although temperatures have been close to 0°C in the past days. The forest floor is currently really wet and soft. But (almost) clear cutting a forest is of course never gentle anyways. Looking at it from that perspective, does it matter?”]

“Det vil kun bli hugget trær i nærmere byggeområder, og areal regulert til infrastruktur.” (Ås Avis, 19.12.24)

[“Trees will only be cut in specified building areas, and in the area regulated for infrastructure projects.”]

Korreksjon: “Vi ta også ned alle de store trærne rett ved parkeringsplassen Nedre Pentagonvei, sånn at studentene får hele bildet av byggeplassen og av vårt bevaringsarbeid.”

[Correction: “We also take down all the large trees right next to the parking lot Nedre Pentagonvei, so that the students get the whole picture of the construction site and of our conservation work.”]

“Samtidig skal det være til minst mulig sjenanse for naboene.” (Ås Avis, 19.12.24)

[“At the same time, it should be as little nuisance to the neighbors as possible.”]

Korreksjon: “I tillegg til å gi naboer denne urovekkende, men ærlige utsikten (vi liker ærlighet), sørger vi også for å kutte i helgene og til sent på kvelden. Vi håpet i utgangspunktet å irritere naboene så lite som mulig… Eller det var det vi sa. Men du vet, en rask jobb er en god jobb, og alle har friheten til å bruke ørepropper :)”

[Correction: “Besides providing neighbors with this disturbing but honest view (we like honesty), we also make sure to cut on weekends and until late in the evening. We initially hoped to annoy neighbors as little as possible… or that’s what we said. But you know, a fast job is a good job and everyone has the freedom to use earplugs :)”]

“Av hensyn til NMBU ville Opsahl også vente til etter eksamensperioden.” (Ås Avis, 19.12.24)

[“For the sake of NMBU, Opsahl also wanted to wait until after the exam period.”]

Korreksjon: “Det samme gjelder studenter og ansatte ved NMBU som forbereder seg til eksamen i slutten av januarblokken. Hurra for ørepropper! Eller kanskje bare skru opp høy musikk – det er dere studenter gode på. Eller… kanskje ikke… fordi… familiehjem…”

[Correction: “The same goes for students and staff of NMBU who are preparing for the exams at the end of January Block. Hooray for earplugs! Or maybe just turn up loud music – you students are good at that. Or…maybe don’t… because… family homes…”]

“Reguleringsplanen sier også at store trær skal bevares. Det vil si trær med en diameter på over 40 centimeter og en stammeomkrets på over 125 centimeter i 130 centimeters høyde.” (Ås Avis, 19.12.24)

[“The zoning plan also states that large trees must be preserved. That is, trees with a diameter of more than 40 centimeters and a trunk circumference of more than 125 centimeters in height of 130 centimeters.”]

Korreksjon: “Vi kjenner til forskriften i reguleringsplanen som sier at store trær skal bevares… Bare våre arbeidere gjør det ikke, uff. Derfor ble det i dag hogd flere gamle og store trær rett ved siden av parkeringsplassen uansett… Jeg antar at vi også glemte å legge til rette for dyreliv og salamandere… Uffda. Men ja, jeg mener det er sannsynligvis unntak fra regler og slikt… Det går vel greit. Eller… Hva ville være en fin pris for unntak?”

[Correction: “We know of the zoning plan which states that large trees must be preserved…only our workers don’t, whoops. That’s why today several old and big trees right next to the parking lot were cut anyways… I guess we also forgot to facilitate for wildlife and salamanders… Whoops. But yeah, I mean there’s probably exceptions to rules and such…it’s fine. Or…what would a nice price for exceptions?”]

“Byggeprosjektet har per dags dato ikke tilgang til Nedre Pentagonvei, og uten tilgang på veien stanser prosjektet vårt opp. Veien går på både vår og NMBUs tomt. […] vi vil at en tredje instans skal avgjøre riktig pris. Vi er positive til en fin løsning for det nye året.” (Ås Avis, 19.12.24)

[“The construction project currently does not have access to Nedre Pentagonvei, and without access to the road, our project comes to a halt. The road runs on both our and NMBU’s plot. […] we want a third party to determine the right price. We are positive about a good solution for the new year.”]

Korreksjon: “Vi har fortsatt ikke tilgang til Nedre Pentagonvei, noe som ville være avgjørende. Så for å være sikre på at vi kommer til enighet med SiÅs og NMBU (til riktig pris ;)), valgte vi å starte hogsten allerede (til tross for ulempene nevnt ovenfor). Hvis skogen er borte eller halvveis ødelagt, har SiÅs og NMBU mindre grunn til å nekte oss denne viktige avtalen.”

[Correction: “We still don’t have access to Nedre Pentagonvei, which would be essential. So, to make sure we come to an agreement with SiÅs and NMBU (for the right price ;)), we chose to already start the felling (despite the downsides mentioned above). If the forest is gone or halfway destroyed, SiÅs and NMBU have less reasons to deny us this essential agreement.”]
